Ian Hawkey escribe para The Sunday Times, medio para quien fue corresponsal responsable del fútbol europeo, con base en Madrid hasta el año 2012. Su primer libro sobre la Historia del fútbol africano obtuvo el prestigioso premio National Sports Councils Football Book of the Year y también fue finalista del William Hill Sports Book for the Year.
